Rhythm in the Ridings

On Saturday 21st of June sixteen of our Year 5 and Year 6 children performed at Woolshops in Halifax along with children from 12 other schools to celebrate the Tour de France coming to Calderdale.

The performance was the culmination of a project called Rhythm in the Ridings which has involved children from each school writing a song with the help of poet Paul Cookson and musician Sam Dunkley, which they then had to learn, along with the songs from the other 12 schools and perform on the day. Riverside joined with Hebden Royd School to write our song and came up with the brilliant ‘Rhythm in the Ridings’ that they performed on Saturday and again in assembly on Monday morning.

Saturday was a fantastic success with the children rehearsing on Saturday morning at North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax with musician Sam Dunkley and children from all the other schools. Then at 2.15pm 350 children walked from Halifax Town Hall to Woolshops to perform their songs.

It was a fabulous day, very well supported, and all our children should be very proud of being part of such a historic event. Well done to everyone involved!
