Food For Life Partnership Bronze Award

In July 2014 Riverside Junior School were awarded the Food for Life Partnership Bronze Award. This award is given to schools who meet certain criteria and who demonstrate to the wider world that their school is doing fantastic work to provide healthy school meals, great lunchtimes and food education that has a positive impact on both pupils and the wider community.

We are proud to say that ALL our school meals are now cooked fresh, daily from locally sourced suppliers and provide our pupils with a nutritious and tasty lunch each day. We now have our kitchen garden up and running, as you may have noticed in the playground, with many of our planters now being home to vegetables, herbs and fruit. Once harvested, these will also provide our school kitchen with delicious organic produce to use in our school meals.

However, we are not stopping there! We are now well on the way to achieving our Food for Life Partnership Silver Award. In working towards achieving this we have set up an After School Cooking Club, are working to show that our school food is healthy, ethical, uses some local and organic ingredients and have organised farm visits for our Year 3 children in the Summer Term.
