On Tuesday June 2nd, Riverside Junior School took on Scout Road Academy in a 9 a-side football match. As Scout Road had the home field advantage it was a shock, when Riverside demolished them in a 8-3 victory.
In the first half Scout Road had the tide in their favour and by tide I mean wind. Unfortunately Riverside went 1-0 down in the first few minutes but we quickly recovered with a goal from Daniel Fletcher to put us level. Eventually the first half ended (4-3) with an amazing strike from Alex Flanagan putting us ahead, the other goals going to Joshua Sims and Daniel Stutt respectively.
After some prep talk with are coach (Mrs Scarf) we were back on and the second half was better than the first with Joshua Sims ‘ha-trick’, Daniel Fletcher’s second and Ross’ corner goal tied up the match.
In defence Barney Mellor and Fenner Hughes-Jeffreys, who didn’t let 1 goal in in the second half. In net Joshua (second name) was an effective barrier blocking shot after shot and was kicking the ball to the other end of the pitch. On the bench was Jack Edmondson who came on in the first half in defence. Joshua Sims and Daniel Stutt were brilliant strikers with Joshua beating all of the defenders. In midfield was Alex Flanagan, Daniel Fletcher, Ross Buchanan and Billy Hobbs. Although Billy did not score any goals he set up multiple goals and was an asset to the team. After the match everyone shook hands and the Riverside team went on for a picture.
