Change4life workshops with Year 4 Spring 2

Change4life have been looking at Healthy life styles with both Year 4 classes for 6 weeks. Children are challenged to consider the sugar lurking in their food and drink choices, look at energy intake and have a greater understanding of a healthy diet. The second half of the lesson involves physical activity to promote active life styles and regular participation in sport.

HX7 Netball tournament and training March 17

Riverside hosted a Y5/6 netball training event for the HX7 partnership which was very successful. We have 3 marked out pitches and 6 nets: only Calder High can rival this! Having practised High 5 rules, we then went to Calder High to play in a tournament against Burnley Rd, Heptonstall and Scout Rd. High 5 seeks to promote female participation so each team must have at least 4 girls [Ivy, Jaz, Billie and Ruby N] and there is a strict rotation every half, so children get to play every position. 16 Riverside pupils took part. Well Done!

West Yorkshire Games Cross Country Finals 15.3.17

Mrs Scarf took 17 pupils from Y4/5 to Temple Newsam, Leeds, on a gorgeous sunny day for the West Yorkshire XC competition. Having a Y4 Girls team [Fearne, Nakeisha, Jocelyn, Noa, Rosie, Mathilda], Y5 Boys [Charlie, George, Tom O, Alfie, Elio] and Girls [Maia, Amelie, Lily, Hattie, Lucia] team plus Thomas Mckee in Y4 was a great achievement. We are so proud of all the children who ran their hardest, wearing their distinctive Green Calderdale T-shirts. Thanks you parents, especially Rachel McFie for all your support.

Playleaders workshop Feb 17

Six of our Y5 volunteered to find out more about leading playground games and attended an afternoon workshop in Mytholmroyd. We hope Tom O, Hattie, Christina, Lucia, Ruby N and Iris will be able to use some of their new ideas and skills to enrich Riverside playtimes.
