Hi, my name is Alison Waldron and I am the Learning Mentor here at Riverside. My main role in school is to help pupils overcome any barriers they have which may be getting in the way of their learning, by working one to one with some children and in small groups with others. Another big part of my role is to meet with parents/carers to discuss their child’s needs and provide help and support in any way I can. Children can come and speak with me directly in school if they have a problem, or they can post a letter to me in the Post Box I have outside my office. I am also around in the playground before and after school every day should any parent need to see me. However, I also get to do lots of fun stuff too! I lead the School Council at their fortnightly meetings and really enjoy helping them with their ideas to improve our school. Each day I run a different lunchtime club which at the moment includes Gardening Club, Lego Club, Reading Club and Games Club and every Friday lunchtime I get to celebrate birthdays with our children in the Nurture Room. On a more personal note, I live in Halifax with my husband Gary, our two sons, Joe and Fin and our German Shepherd Dog, Shadow. In my spare time, I like to walk our dogs, read and cook. But my real passion is renovating our dilapidated farmhouse in the south west of France with a view to one day spending a long and happy retirement there.
