It’s hard to believe we’re over half way through the year! We’re hoping the Summer Term will be a happy one, and we have lots of interesting and stimulating activities planned.
This half term we are going to visit a farm in Blackshawhead. We’re told there are piglets due so that should be exciting.
Swimming will continue every Wednesday morning – the children seemed to cope very well with this new activity, especially the ones who have never swum before. Thank you for helping them to remember to bring a costume and a towel. They might be extra hungry afterwards and will miss the tuck shop at school so feel to send them with a suitable snack for them to eat afterwards.
In Maths the children will continue to develop their mental and oral skills , and there is a daily focus on learning Times Tables by heart. Please help your child by practising them at home. The main topics this term are position, measure and Venn and Carroll diagrams.
In Literacy we will be reading Pirate Stories and Mokee Joe, as part of our Adventure Stories topic.
Pete Samson, the poet will be coming into school to do workshops with the children, during the first half term. Non fiction writing will be persuasive writing.
In ICT we are looking forward to receiving our new tablets to use in class to support the delivery of ICT.
Our Art this term will be inspired by the Tour de France. It’s going to be a whole school topic and should be very exciting! This topic will also tie in with our Enterprise Week -more details to follow.
In RE we will be learning about Christian and Hindu beliefs about creation.
Science topics for this term are Light and Shadows and Plants. We’ve already made shadow puppets!
In PE we will be starting our Striking and Fielding topic, learning skills to play rounders and cricket type games. After half term we will be doing Athletics.
In PSCHE we will be talking about how it feels to move on, start new things in life, and ways of dealing with change.
Music this term will be taught by Mrs Bradley and will include singing, percussion and rhythm. They will be learning some of the songs from ‘Joseph’.
Finally, we have arranged a trip to Leeds Armouries in the second half of the Summer term. This supports our Roman Topic from last term, and also ties in with our Pirates and Adventure Stories.
