Welcome from the Head Teacher

Riverside has been serving the families and community of Hebden Bridge for more than one hundred years. It began its life in 1909 as a United District Secondary School and became Riverside Junior School in 1964. We are in an enviable position – at the heart of the small, thriving town of Hebden Bridge, yet surrounded by the beautiful South Pennine hills and within walking distance of the National Trust owned Hardcastle Crags.

All our classrooms are a good size, bright and airy, and well equipped to serve the age and needs of our children. Our classrooms all have LED Touchscreens/interactive whiteboards which are used as an integral part of teaching and learning. We aim to use computers/ipads as a tool to support learning as well as extend learning. Our school hall has a screen and data projector.

At Riverside we focus our provision on the education of the whole child: academic, spiritual, moral, emotional, cultural and physical. It is essential that each child learns the basic skills of reading, writing, mathematics and computing to the absolute best of his/her ability, and we teach these with dedication, flair and passion through an increasingly rich, colourful and varied curriculum.

Our school vision underpins all we do :

Nurture: Inspire: Challenge: Creativity: Love of Learning

The outdoor environment at school is just as important for good learning as classrooms; our new playground will  have a Trimtrail, picnic area, growing garden area, activity area, football and netball pitches plus a multi purpose covered area.  Not to forget our new markings for the mile a day run!

We make every effort to ensure that each child feels happy and secure in school and has a sense of being cared for and valued for who they are. If for any reason a child becomes worried or upset we act immediately, work with parents and always follow up concerns. Our Learning Mentor, Mrs Alison Waldron supports families and children to ensure all in the Riverside community are happy and secure.

Please browse through our website and feel free to come and see us at work. We are proud to be accountable for what we do and feel that our excellent results reflect the quality of teaching as well as the support we receive from parents. The best indicators of the performance of Riverside are the children and the skills, abilities and outcomes that they have in the academic, social, arts and sporting areas of their development.

At Riverside, we take great pride in our school and all our achievements and we take great care of each other, our environment and our community.
