PE at Riverside

‘Physical education should be a high-quality subject that inspires all pupils. The curriculum should be ambitious and designed to give all pupils the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.’

At Riverside Junior School we promise that each child will:

  • receive two hours of engaging and inspiring physical education a week (Real PE and Sport)

  • Recieve weekly swimming lessons in Year 4 (Year 5 covid catch up) for a term to improve their level of swimming and water safety. We will offer booster support for those children who need additional swimming lessons to meet national expectations.

  • Receive a variety of opportunities to try, improve and compete in a range of extra-curricular activities and competitions.

Additional physical activity

In addition to our PE lessons and extra-curricular provision, we aim to provide children with fun sporting workshops to expose them to a wide range of sports available. Recently the children have enjoyed:

  • Skateboarding

  • Circus skills

  • Street dance

  • Road 2 Tokyo workshop- archery, kickboxing, wheelchair racing, volleyball, Boccia and rowing.
