Award winning food

A full belly can make a big difference to how well a child learns in the afternoon. But at Riverside, we like to think we go that extra mile in serving our wonderful children with tasty and nutritious food, and we’re not the only ones, as we’re the first school in Calderdale to be awarded the Silver Service standard of school dinners (Riverside Junior School overcomes flooding and achieve Silver Food for Life Served Here - Food for Life).

Cheryl and her excellent team work tirelessly to keep up to these high standards, and are keen to make sure every child has a great experience in our lunch hall. Service with a smile means checking in with children to see how much they’re enjoying dinners, but also look for those children who maybe haven’t cleaned their plates, and check what we can do better. Our fabulous meals, cooked from scratch are also delivered to a number of other schools locally, which means that our delicious parkin is famous across the valley!

Allergies

The safety of our children is our highest concern, and we cater for a number of children with allergies ranging from peanuts to even kiwi fruit. We also cater for children for whom gluten can be an issue and prepare food separately, in a gluten free designated area of the kitchen using discrete equipment to insure no cross contamination occurs.

If you have a concern about the food we prepare get in touch now through admin@riverside.calderdale.sch.uk and Cheryl, our Catering Manager, will be in touch.

Cost

Our aim is to encourage your child to eat healthily and try our fantastic meals at the affordable price of £2.50 per day from September 2023.

Parents are asked to pay in advance, weekly, monthly or half-termly and we encourage parents to pay for dinners using an online secure payment system SchoolMoney.

Applications for Free School Meals may be made direct to Calderdale Council. The administrative staff at school can advise about the procedure in case of difficulty. Please note that if the school has not received notification of entitlement to free meals parents/carers will be required to pay. This will then be refunded to you when notification is received, from the appropriate date.
