Science at Riverside

Aims

Our Science curriculum is sequentially and coherently designed with a focus on investigative practical learning to spark pupils’ curiosity in the natural and humanly-constructed world around them, whilst providing a purpose and relevance for learning, instilling respect for living organisms and underscoring the importance of the physical environment that humankind both depends on and is a part of.

Year 3/4 Wrens test conductive and insulating materials

In Science at Riverside we have designed a learning experience to include formal learning opportunities, memorable experiences, visits, visitors, events and enrichment activities that take place both inside and outside of the classroom through both tangible and virtual means. We are guided by the children’s questions and the things that get them excited to learn, explore, predict and investigate.

Science is so much fun because we can make and build things.

“I like testing our ideas to see if they will work” - Year 4 pupil

Our Science curriculum overviews support the clear development of Scientific skills and knowledge throughout school. Each lesson has a core question for learning as its focus.

These overviews also provide the guidance to ensure children are progressively and appropriately challenged, whilst prioritising hands-on learning which draw on prior knowledge and get children excited to explore and investigate!
