At Riverside, we aim to inspire all children to reach their full academic potential whilst developing an enthusiasm for mathematics. We aim to develop lively, enquiring minds encouraging pupils to become self-motivated, confident and capable in order to solve problems that will become an integral part of their future.

Our aims for Maths at Riverside

At Riverside Junior School, we aim to sustain and develop in all children:

Confidence, understanding and enjoyment in mathematics.
An awareness of relationship and pattern, and how these can bring about a clearer understanding of a mathematical situation.
The ability to work systematically where the task requires a careful accurate approach, as well as the ability to show imagination, initiative and flexibility.
Independence of thought and action as well as the ability to co-operate within a group.
Demonstrate problem solving skills and strategies.
The ability to use mathematics effectively as a tool in a wide variety of situations outside of the classroom.
The sensible use of factual recall, mental and written methods and other mathematical aids.

TT Rockstars

Across all classes at Riverside we use Times Tables Rock Stars, which is a carefully sequenced programme for daily times tables practice. All children access weekly practice as part of their Maths lessons, using both paper form times tables or using their online accounts.

‘TT Rockstars has very successfully boosted times tables recall speed for many pupils over the last 8 years in over 16,000 schools - both primary and secondary - worldwide’.
